Part III MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? 'Seven Steps to Deity 'Immaculate Conception 'A second step to Mary’s deification by the Catholic Church is the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, which the Church declared in 1854. This doctrine maintains that “the Virgin Mary was, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of God Almighty, in virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ the Savior, preserved from all stain of original sin.” The Mary of Biblical revelation, on the contrary, considers herself a sinner, “the handmaiden of the Lord,” and she rejoiced and “magnified the Lord,” while her spirit “rejoiced in God my Savior.” 'This dogma of Roman Catholic theology concerning the Virgin was rejected by Clement of Alexandria in the second century; St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo in the fourth century; St. Ambrose, St. Bernard, Peter Lombard, and Bishop Melchior Cannas (professor of Canon Law and Dogmatic Theology of Salamonica, Spain, a delegate theologian to the Council of Trent). Others, including Popes, rejected it. St. Antoninus and Pope Leo I are notable for their dissent. Said Pope Leo: 'The Lord Jesus Christ alone among the sons of men was born without sin.” 'Pope Gallatus stated, “It belongs alone to the immaculate to have no sin at all.” 'And Pope Gregory I stated, “Christ alone was truly born holy.” 'One simply cannot ignore Pope Innocent III: “Eve was produced without sin but she brought forth in sin, Mary was brought forth in sin but she brought forth without sin.” 'Time does not permit us to reproduce many quotations of this nature; but it is significant that all these theologians based their affirmations on Holy Scripture, whereas those who supported the dogmas which point to Mary’s exalted role in Catholic Church theology rested their case largely upon tradition. We dare not to forget the words of the Apostle Paul: “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), which, when linked with his further statement, “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), clearly teaches that only the flesh of Jesus Christ is free from the condemnation of sin and death. 2 | Was Mary a virgin her whole life | Matt 1:25 | Brian.g | 48136
kalos Do you feel that God, the Father, is stained with sin. I'm sure we both agree the answer is no. Jesus is God and would not be stained with sin. In order to accomplish this, it was neccessary that original sin was cleansed from His mother. On that basis, the Catholic Church considers Mary to be the first person saved by Jesus. She was cleansed of all sin (including original sin), in order to prepare her body for her son. So that, her Son (God), was born free of all stains of sin. Mary received the same cleansing that is offered to each of us, at Baptism. Although she was saved before the birth of Christ, in accordance with God's plan. Brian |

Greeting Brian! You wrote: "the Catholic Church considers Mary to be the first person saved by Jesus." Does the BIBLE say this is so? You wrote: "She was cleansed of all sin (including original sin), in order to prepare her body for her son." How does the BIBLE say this happened? You wrote: "So that, her Son (God), was born free of all stains of sin." Where does the BIBLE say that God needed Mary to be sinless in order to bring forth Jesus, who knew no sin? You wrote: "Mary received the same cleansing that is offered to each of us, at Baptism." Where does the BIBLE say that BAPTISM cleanses us?According to Hebrews 9:22, it is blood that cleanses sin! You wrote: "Although she was saved before the birth of Christ, in accordance with God's plan." How was Mary "saved?" Where is this "plan" revealed? Can you support this teaching with Scripture? Let's be careful to differentiate between the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church and the Teaching of God's Word! Let's seek the TRUTH together! Mommapbs |

4 | Where is the TRUTH found? | Matt 1:25 | Brian.g | 48145
Mommapbs The role of a church is to help guide man into a closer and more personal relationship with God, through Jesus. While, to a degree, each Christian church shares in the success of that objective, some churches help enable their members to enjoy a more complete and fuller relationship with God, than do others. I trust the teachings of the Catholic Church. Brian |

Brian: You wrote: "The role of a church is to help guide man into a closer and more personal relationship with God, through Jesus." Why do you define this as THE role of the church. Peter wrote that the church has a different focus: "But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light" --1 Peter 2:9 --Joe! |

Joe By proclaiming the excellencies of God, we are proclaiming the truth of God. When people hear the truth of God and understand that God is truth, people will desire to be brought into a closer and more personal relationship with God. And, all people who know and understand the truth of God will desire to be one, not only with God, but with each other - for which Jesus prayed John 17:20-26 I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them. Jesus created the Church to continue His mission of helping man achieve a closer and more personal relationship wih God, through Jesus - and with each other, through and with God. Yes Joe, I agree with 1 Peter 2:9 - Proclaim the excellencies of Him... Brian |
