1 | Is Catholic considered false religion? | Matt 15:6 | Emmaus | 71731 | ||
CDBJ, The official Catholic doctrine on Mary's sinless condition by virtuen of the merits of christ is this: "The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin." Now for a few sources you may recognize as Reformers who held the same position: "Men have crowded all her glory into a single phrase: The Mother of God. No one can say anything greater of her, though he had as many tongues as there are leaves on the trees." From the Commentary (of Luther)on the Magnificat. ". . . she is rightly called not only the mother of the man, but also the Mother of God. . . . it is certain that Mary is the Mother of the real and true God." Ref: Sermon on John 14. 16: Luther's Works ( St. Louis, ed. Jaroslav, Pelican, Concordia. vol. 24. p. 107 "Christ our Savior was the real and natural fruit of Mary's virginal womb. . . . This was without the cooperation of a man, and she remained a virgin after that." REf: On the Gospel of St. John: Luther's Works, vol. 22. p. 23, ed. Jaroslav Pelican, Concordia, 1957 ". . . she is full of grace, proclaimed to be entirely without sin. . . . God's grace fills her with everything good and makes her devoid of all evil. . . . God is with her, meaning that all she did or left undone is divine and the action of God in her. Moreover, God guarded and protected her from all that might be hurtful to her." Ref: Luther's Works, American edition, vol. 43, p. 40 , ed. H. Lehmann, Fortress, 1968 Elizabeth called Mary Mother of the Lord, because the unity of the person in the two natures of Christ was such that she could have said that the mortal man engendered in the womb of Mary was at the same time the eternal God." " It cannot be denied that God in choosing and destining Mary to be the Mother of his Son, granted her the highest honor." Calvin "I firmly believe that Mary, according to the words of the gospel as a pure Virgin brought forth for us the Son of God and in childbirth and after childbirth forever remained a pure, intact Virgin." This is where I have to differ with you greatly. Your Post, "The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin." Born again Christians don’t believe that the sin issue was dealt with until Christ said, while hanging on the cross, (TELEO) it is finished. John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. If Jesus had not died on the cross for us we wouldn’t have the opportunity for salvation even though the Word was born into the human race as a man. What Mary did wouldn’t have made a bit of difference? We praise God for giving us His Son, we don’t thank Mary for having him! The major difference, as I see it, is the emphasis, I want to give all the praise glory and credit to God, where as Catholics kind of like to spread it around a little. To each his own, have a nice day, CDBJ |
