1 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | srbaegon | 215861
Hello chosen one, The attached verse seems to indicate that Jesus did drink wine. If he did not, they could not have called him a drunkard. Steve |

Hello Brother Tim, you know I get so tired of the wine question but I just wanted to ask you this what is worse drinking wine or providing it for others to drink. It seems to me they are the same. You are right we do not have a clear cut verse that says our Lord drank the wine but we do have one that He performed the miracle in making it. There are hundreds of other sins and abuses to preach on. Why will preachers not get on their soap boxes about spousal abuse, beating their wives and children, incest, pornography, and a host of other despicable sins. Yet we have this debate every two or three months about drinking wine. Since God made everything on earth and Jesus is God then he made other things that are bad for us if taken in excess so why do preachers want to deny that the Lord made alcohol. It seems to me to be a non issue. God made everything. Just a few thoughts. Hope you are well. Sister Val

Greetings Val! Actually, I wasn't addressing the wine question, but the point that being accused of something means one must have done it. :-) I am a member of a holiness denomination, so I am against ALL sin. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

5 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | Val | 215875
Dear Brother Tim, As to your point in the first part of your answer my answer is Not Necessarily. People come to conclusions based on their experience from studying the scriptures. And even then as they study further their conclusion may change with more enlightenment. You still didn't answer the second part of my question. Why is that? Could it be because you know preachers are guilty of not spending enough time on the despicable sins because people don't want to hear the horrible. Could it be that discussing wine is a more safe subject? I think of the people who raise the grapes for wine. This is their livelyhood. How would you witness to them? Could it be that you would tell them they have to find another means of feeding their family? Could it be that we make being a christian harder than it has to be? I believe we do. What say you? 6 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | Morant61 | 215922
Greetings Val! I am not sure how to address some of these questions as you seem to be reading some past experiences into my responses. I thought I did respond to your second question. I am against, and preach against all sin. :-) I have records of my sermons dating back almost 20 years. In those 20 years, I have preached directly on alcohol only 4 times. I have preached twice on the issue of substance abuse in general. So out of an approximate 3,000 sermons, I preached against alcohol specifically only 6 times. :-) I am sure I have probably mentioned in a number of other times. Have you heard those 3,000 sermons? Do you know what sins I preach against? But, I will say that if we could eliminate drugs and alcohol, many of these other sins would no longer be a problem. My wife and I recently went through foster parenting classes. We were informed that about 98 percent of the kids in foster care are there because of substance abuse. Many, in fact probably most, crimes are connected to substance abuse. So, please, don't make broad accusations against me because we may disagree on this topic. I have accused you of nothing my sister, but you have implied, nay stated, that I preach on certain topics and avoid others without any personal knowledge of what I preach. :-( As far as your hypothetical is concerned, I would witness to that family like I would any other, and I would teach them that being a believer means submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. At that point, everything in their lives should be under His control. They would have to ask Him whether or not they should continue in that line of work. He is their Master, not me. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Morant61: Brother Tim, in 3,000 sermons You are able to track you messages much better than any other Pastor I know of. Congradulations you can't have ADD and do that, I admire your organization skills. I have mostly preached book by book. I am under the understanding that by doing book by book you eventually cover everything, and no one can say you are preaching at then alone and their sin. I have found it is amazing how often the Holy Spirit uses the Word to reach those who need just that message at that time. If some who find fault at how preachers preach I would like to see how they suffer in preparing to bring forth the Word God has directed us to preach. Never did I feel I did enough preperation, Sermon preperation is the hardest work there is to do. Blessings Pastor Tim. justme |

8 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | Morant61 | 215925
Greetings Justme! I have OCD tendencies! :-) I prepare a fairly detailed sermon outline and then print it off and store it in a binder, a specific one for each year. I save the outline as a file on the computer with a name including the number for the specific sermon and then a number for the year. I then create a database entry with all of the relevant information, including: sermon name, date, scripture passage, topic, file name, ect.... So, I have all of this on just about every sermon I have ever preached. :-) I know, I need a life. ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
