1 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | Morant61 | 215922 | ||
Greetings Val! I am not sure how to address some of these questions as you seem to be reading some past experiences into my responses. I thought I did respond to your second question. I am against, and preach against all sin. :-) I have records of my sermons dating back almost 20 years. In those 20 years, I have preached directly on alcohol only 4 times. I have preached twice on the issue of substance abuse in general. So out of an approximate 3,000 sermons, I preached against alcohol specifically only 6 times. :-) I am sure I have probably mentioned in a number of other times. Have you heard those 3,000 sermons? Do you know what sins I preach against? But, I will say that if we could eliminate drugs and alcohol, many of these other sins would no longer be a problem. My wife and I recently went through foster parenting classes. We were informed that about 98 percent of the kids in foster care are there because of substance abuse. Many, in fact probably most, crimes are connected to substance abuse. So, please, don't make broad accusations against me because we may disagree on this topic. I have accused you of nothing my sister, but you have implied, nay stated, that I preach on certain topics and avoid others without any personal knowledge of what I preach. :-( As far as your hypothetical is concerned, I would witness to that family like I would any other, and I would teach them that being a believer means submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. At that point, everything in their lives should be under His control. They would have to ask Him whether or not they should continue in that line of work. He is their Master, not me. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear Tim: To be specific Did you say anything short of abstinence is a sin? The bible does not command us not to drink wine. It does command us not to get drunk. The only way a person could get drunk is to drink wine. This is not broad. It is very specific. It is not a sin to drink a glass of wine with a meal which is the original question. As to whether the content was the same in ancient times, we have some references of people getting drunk so whether it was four to one, they still managed to do it. I am glad you do not beat your congregation over the head with the topic. In my neck of the woods, they do. I thought the response of hopealong with the gotquestions answer covered it pretty good. I don't have any thing to add. In closing we will have to agree to disagree my friend. Blessings, Val |
