1 | Does it take away sins or not? | Lev 16:34 | Morant61 | 19858
Word Study..................................... Greetings Steve! The word translated as 'permanent' is the Hebrew word 'owlam (# 5769). There is some evidence in Scripture that the meaning of the word is not "forever", but refers instead to an unspecified "remote time." For instance: 1) It is used in Deut. 32:7 and Job 22:15 as a reference to the generations of one's elders. 2) It is used in (rov. 22:28; 23:10; Jer. 6:16; 18:15; 28:8) to refer ancient, but not eternal things. 3) It is used in (Is. 58:12, 61:4; Mic. 7:14; Mal. 3:4) to refer to the time before the exile. 4) It is used in (1 Sam. 27:8; Is. 51:9, 63:9, 11) to refer to the events of the exodus. 5) It is used in Gen. 6:4 to refer to the time shortly before the flood. (These references were taken from the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament - pg. 672) Thus, one possible answer to your question is that the word does not mandate that the statue be eternal at all. It simply was in effect until Christ fulfilled it on the cross. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim, Thank you. Maybe the translaters need to make an adjustment. Searcher

Hi Seacher56, I don't think that the translators have to make an adjustment for the permanence is determined by the "will" of the One who inaugerated it. The One who "said, "Behold, (I) have come [In the roll of the book it is written of Me] To do Thy will, O God."" Hebrews 10:7 "...then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Thy will." (He) takes away the first to establish the second." Hebrews 10:9 Parentheses are for comparison. "And the Holy (Spirit) also bears witness to us:...Hebrews 10:15 "...by a new and living (Way) which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,..." Jesus came to do God's will. But test the spirits for there is only one Way. "By this you know the *spirit of (God); every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God." *my interpretation. Parentheses are for comparison and Oneness. Later, Ray |
