2 | Why was his heart hardened? | Ex 4:21 | mark d seyler | 163460 | ||
Hi srinaldi, The answer is found in Romans 9:17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH." 18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. 19 You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?" 20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? 21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? 22 What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? God wanted to show His power to the world, and He chose to do it through Pharaoh. There is a time coming that God will do a similar thing to others. 2 Thess 2:8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. Because they did not receive the love of the truth, God will hold these people for judgment, having judged them already, even though they continue to walk the earth. Hebrews 3:12 Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

Good stuff Mark! This subject speaks well to the sovereignty of God does it not? And should give reason for many of us to praise Him for His mercy on us! Thank you holy and merciful Father! God Bless! Steve |

Hello humbled, Yes the subject does speak to the sovereignty of God. Speaking from experience I can say that it can be hard for some to accept or truly understand just how sovereign He is. When I was early in my walk with the Lord I struggled with this very story (of Pharoah)in the bible. Although I grew up in the church and already had a healthy respect for who God was and believed Him to be perfect in every way, I had a many month struggle with this passage. I just couldn't make it fair no matter how I looked at it or tried to rationalize it. It was some time before I got around to the passages in Romans that Mark taught through in this thread. Had there been somone like Mark around, or had there been such thing as the Internet (for public use that is) and this forum, it might have saved me a lot of heartache and struggle with doubt. And yes, it does give me reason to praise Him for His mercy and His grace. It's awesome to know that I was not saved because it was "fair", but becaue God chose me for His own. And I know myself. That God did save me is proof enough for me that He is merciful and full of grace. Thanks for your insight, Jeff |

Hi Brother Jeff, I like what you said "And I know myself. That God did save me is proof enough for me that He is merciful and full of grace". How true that is! The more you read God's word and see how corrupted and sinful man is, the more you sit there and say, yep that's me. Sounds just like me etc... And yet He showed mercy in spite of my ways and saved me. How humbling is that? How awesome is our God? How thankful we should be! Steve |
