1 | When is abortion right? | Ex 21:23 | CDBJ | 74829 | ||
Hi Hank, I don’t want to get anyone upset with this I think we should just let it go. I will respond with these last few comments then it’s over. The first verse that you listed was one that I was going to use to point out my position. Psalm 22:10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. Doesn’t is say from birth and not from conception? It also says from my mother’s womb. This is the word MEBETEN, which means out from. I think that most of what you listed is dealing with God’s foreknowledge the same way he knew that I would believe on Him from before the foundation of the world yet I wasn’t a new creature in Christ until the point at which I believed. The seed of God’s word was planted and nourished but there was no birth at the time of conception. 1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. Hank I could go on and on with this but I don’t think it is a good topic of discussion where there are so many that can’t handle it. There are to many young Christians on this forum that might stumble do to my efforts of trying to explain what I have found. I don’t care to extend this any more and I think you can appreciate why. Just for the record I hate abortion. Love trumps knowledge, Chuck |

Dear, Chuck The problem I have with your oppinion is that you seem to think that the bible is only for those who know greek or hewbrew in this case. I don't believe that we need to define every word in the original language to get what is being said. If you gave this verse to a 3rd world person, someone that did not go to "bible college" he would understand that the word womb means inside the womb. Not "MEBETEN" which means out from. My concordance says this: Strong's Ref. number 990 Romanized beten Pronounced beh'-ten from an unused root probably meaning to be hollow; the belly, especially the womb; also the bosom or body of anything: KJV--belly, body, plus as they be born, plus within, womb. Now if the word meant "from out from" MEBETEN, and not "within the womb" BETEN Im sure the translators of the NIV text would have translated as such: "10. From birth I was cast upon you; from (OUT FROM or more literal FROM OUTSIDE)my mother's womb you have been my God." But they stuck with, "(FROM) my mother's womb you have been my God." Maybe your Strongs is differnt than mine but mine says BETEN and not (ME)BETEN- Paranthesis for emphasis. Even so, I do not think that the average person reading it would get your transation from the plain meaning of the text. A rule of interpretation says that "when the plain meaning of the text makes sense, no interpretaion is needed of the text." However, I will look at the Strongs for the NIV because I think the Strongs I have is set up for the KJV. We will see what it does say in the original language. . . Your brother in Christ, dulos |
