Sir Pent - I have thought about this and although I have no absolute answers I would offer this observation. Mark 1:8 tells us that Jesus would baptize believers with the Holy Spirit - we would be indwelt - this is our SPIRITUAL BAPTISM. How can the Holy Spirit indwell an unclean vessel? (And this is what OT "believers" were!) When Christ attoned for our sins, everyone had the possibility of becoming NEW (and clean) on the basis of faith in Him. In the Old Testament, the Spirit came upon individuals of God's choosing. John the Baptist was the ONLY person prior to Christ's death and ressurection who was described as full of the Holy Spirit - from before birth.(Lk 1:15) Yet, could the Spirit be withdrawn? I suspect so. At Pentacost, when the Spirit was given, it was given and received into "New Creatures" IN Christ as a permanent DEPOSIT, guaranteeing our redemption and future life with Him. Does this make sense to you? Blessings, mommapbs |

The diffence is that they were looking forward twords Calvary while we look back. PS This is my 2nd time around as a user on this forum. For reasons I would not care to go into publicly, I now prefer greater annonimnity. John Pilgrim |

John Pilgrim - I agree that we are ALL (OT and NT saints) saved by Grace through faith. (Heb 11) With respect to the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit, according to Psalm 51, David implores the Lord to not take His Holy Spirit from him. Why would he ask this if the Holy Spirit took up premanent residence as promised in John 14? Also, looking forward to the day of Pentacost, Jesus said in John 14 that the Spirit WILL be in you, meaning NT believers. Continue reading along this thread as there are many fine posts and references given. I'm sorry if you met with hostility the last time around on the Forum. This can be a challenging place - His love covers a multitude of sins. God bless you as you seek to know Him through His Word. mommapbs |
