Bible Question:
Can anyone else answer this question? I appreciate that Johnny at least tried, but just saying that God's timing is perfect doesn't really answer the question. Doesn't anyone out there have any thoughts on this issue. Why did God's perfect timing dictate that He wait so long to send the Holy Spirit? |
Bible Answer: Sir Pent - I have thought about this and although I have no absolute answers I would offer this observation. Mark 1:8 tells us that Jesus would baptize believers with the Holy Spirit - we would be indwelt - this is our SPIRITUAL BAPTISM. How can the Holy Spirit indwell an unclean vessel? (And this is what OT "believers" were!) When Christ attoned for our sins, everyone had the possibility of becoming NEW (and clean) on the basis of faith in Him. In the Old Testament, the Spirit came upon individuals of God's choosing. John the Baptist was the ONLY person prior to Christ's death and ressurection who was described as full of the Holy Spirit - from before birth.(Lk 1:15) Yet, could the Spirit be withdrawn? I suspect so. At Pentacost, when the Spirit was given, it was given and received into "New Creatures" IN Christ as a permanent DEPOSIT, guaranteeing our redemption and future life with Him.
