Subject: Why did God wait to send the Holy Spirit |
Bible Note: Hi EdB, Thank you for your time and work on this post. 1 Cor. 6:19 willl probably be one of the references that Sir Pent will give me for I asked him for a reference of the Holy Spirit indwelling us. Before I give my understanding of the passage, may I say that I go with the King James for 1 Corinthians 6:17 and 6:20. 1 Corinthians 6:19, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from (God), and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, *and in your spirit which are God's." 1 Corinthians 6:17, NASB, "But the one who joins himself to the Lord/ is one spirit [with Him]." The one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit. And as MacArthur says "a new spirit or disposition inclined to worship Him." We have the Holy Spirit who is from (God) and we are not our own. Romans 8:9, "However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit [I would say spirit], if indeed the Spirit of God/ dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to (Him)." We are not our own, we belong to (Him) and we are complete in (Him). Colossians 1:28. That is the way I see it because we are not in the flesh but in the spirit. Romans 8:9. Colossians 1:27ff tells me "that Christ is in you, the hope of glory, 28 And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in (Christ). 29 And for this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me."
