1 | Heaven is our home. | Mark | Elice Fox | 61882
we cannot look at heaven in our human perspective. (Mark 12:24) JESUS replied to the religious leaders (Sadducces), "Your trouble is that you don't know the Scriptures, and don't know the power of God. Jesus said that not only were the Sadducces ignorant of Scripture, but they didn't understand the power of God. Heaven is far beyond our ability to understand or imagine (Isaiah 64:4); 1 Corinthians 2:9) we must be careful not to create questions about heaven that cannot be answered from our human perspective.we need not be afraid of heaven because of the unknowns.insteaad of wondering what God's coming Kingdom will be like, we should concentrate on our relationship with Jesus right now, because when we are in the new Kingdom we will be with him. How we live now will make a difference.
2 | Heaven is our home. | Mark | Aspilos | 61997
Greetings Elice, Neither should we create ideas about heaven for that matter. Many believe that heaven is a place with streets of gold and a mansion on every corner. That too, is an idea that was created long ago. You said, "Heaven is far beyond our ability to understand or imagine" and I agree. Bendiciones! Aspilos |

3 | Heaven is our home. | Mark | EdB | 62012
Aspilos "Many believe that heaven is a place with streets of gold and a mansion on every corner. That too, is an idea that was created long ago." No Actual Jesus told us that. John 14:2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. Rev. 21:21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. EdB |

EdB, good to hear from you. The word mansions was the choice of the KJV translators, but I wouldn't call it a good choice. I'm not condemning it, but let's face it, none of the translations are perfect. If you look up John 14:2 on this forum, you'll see my veiw there. As for Revelation 21:21, the street is a single street, not streets. There's only one way. That is important to know. Bendiciones! Aspilos |

5 | Heaven is our home. | Mark | EdB | 62018
Aspilos Do you think Jesus was confused? I mean if he said there were compartments, abodes, dwelling places, or even mansion as the KJV translates the Greek word "Mone" He really didn't mean it. You think He really meant to say he has made a place in the family for us. Interesting I never thought of Jesus being confused before. EdB |

EdB, shame shame for putting words in my mouth. I don't recall saying anything about Jesus being confused. You must have gotten that confused. :-) Why do you assume that the word for, "compartments, abodes, dwelling places, etc." is merely in reference to places where we will dwell. What if it happens to be that these are abodes where God too shall dwell. I don't think I'm out of context. Jesus makes the point clear in that same chapter. John 14:23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. The, "Father's house" is the Father's family. This use of the word is not at all uncommon in the Bible. We are in fact, God's abode. Eph. 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. Revelation 21:14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Bendiciones! Aspilos |

Apislo Forgive me I didn’t mean to put words in your mouth, that is just how it came out. Why do I think the word Mone means dwelling place, abode or compartment because that is what it means. Greek is a rich language and unlike English, Greek words mean what they say. To inflect something else they would use another word. Jesus talked in word pictures and he was giving a word picture here. One that would be very clear to the hearer of the time. In Jewish culture a man’s inherence was his fathers land and the family unit stayed together. When a young Jewish man became engaged to be married he would return to his fathers house and build a room or suite onto his families home for himself and his bride. The time it took to build was usually considerable since he had to work on it after his days work. This was considered the couples engagement period. While the Groom was preparing a place the bride was preparing herself, and collecting her dowry and such. When the structure was complete the father of the groom would say all is ready and the groom would then gather his groomsmen and go to fetch his bride. He came with much ceremony and usually a groomsman would run ahead and warn the bride. A wise bride was always prepared, hence the story of the 10 virgins. In any case the groom would then come to his bride’s house with his wedding party and collect her and her dowry and he would take her home to the place he had prepared for her. There would be a great celebration and a wedding banquet. They would then go in and consummate the marriage. Jesus was talking to here a bride groom he said we was going to prepare a place and would return to take his bride ( the church) home. We the bride (church) are supposed to be busy readying yourselves for the coming groom. Rev 19:7-9 No Jesus was saying exactly what he meant He was going to prepare a place for us and when the time is right He will come again to take us home. He is preparing the place the same way He created the earth, not with hammers and nails but rather by speaking it into existence. Jesus is waiting now for the Father to say all is ready. If you want to do further reading on this subject check out Manners and Customs of Bible by Hendrickson Publishing or The New Manners and Customs of Bible Times by Moody Press. These books along with any good commentary on John will give much more detail to what I'm saying. By the way yes we are family Romans 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" Galatians 4:6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So you see we are children of God and as part of the Body of Christ the church we are also the bride of Christ. Really a pretty good place to be. EdB |

EdB I want to make it clear that I do believe in heaven, but I believe John 14 is speaking about God and man's habitation together through the Spirit. Your right, Jesus is talking about abodes or dwelling places, there's no denying. He explains more about these abodes in ver 23. If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. Many believer, equate to many abodes. Jesus often used word pictures when speaking of spiritual things. The consumation of a marrige is a good example of God and man becoming one. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. Jesus prepared a place for us by offering Himself up, and making it possible for us to become children of the Father's family. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. The manner in which he is building is this. Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Bendiciones! Aspilos There are two aspects here first when we die our spirit goes to be with the Lord who is now at the right hand of God our Father in Heaven. However we are told later our spirits will be once again be united with our bodies, which have become immortal. The implication is we will once again become physical beings. As such Jesus has assured us He has provided a place for us to dwell. The terms Jesus used to describe this abiding place are terms like beautiful, splendorous, wonderful and etc. Since we know Jesus will be there with us also I would expect the place not to be too shabby. In fact mansion might even fall short. :-) Our actual final home isn’t heaven but rather the city New Jerusalem. To have a city you would expect buildings and such. We are told this city will descend out of the heavens to take it’s place on the New Earth. We are told that the natural people (those that came through the Millennium) will have access to the city. Again see physical narrative. It is said we will dwell in the city with Jesus and that we will be rulers with Jesus. More physical narrative. So yes while I definitely see a spiritual side of these verses, I also see a very physical side. EdB |
