1 | Short List of Dubious Theology? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 60100
Hi Tim, Dubious: doubtful or not settled. My reference is to eschatology in general and pre-millenialisn in particular. But it is not the eschatological view in itself that disturbs me. It is simply the hype and hoopla that that surrounds the marketing of christianity in America, as if it were a commodity. T-shirts, belt buckles, bumper stickers, sensational books and movies etc. A multi billion dollar business..Ain't it wonderful. Oh me oh my. John John |

Of course, John, I too deplore the commercialization of Christianity and all its special days such as Easter and Christmas, but there is, as the Preacher in Ecclestiastes observed, nothing new under the sun. The practice has been in existence for centuries, it is by no means an invention of American capitalists, and even the Jews of Jesus' day knew how to make a buck on religion! --Hank

Of course it doesn't mean that we can't, or shouldn't, speak out against the commercialization of Christianity in our time. The loudest voice we have, however, doesn't come from our vocal cords but from our wallets. The day we see a sufficient number of Christians refusing to part with their cash in exchange for this commerical junk is the day we will see it being pulled from the store shelves. How does one sigh on the internet? Take a deep breath, I suppose, and audibly exhale on the monitor, then wipe the screen with a soft cloth. After doing this several times, it should clear things up :-) --Hank
