We don't prove the Bible by our experiences. We prove our experiences by the Bible.

Greetings Kalos, While there is good in all of the Scriptures, there is more to Christianity than just the scriptures. We mustn’t get lost in that. Using Scripture to make my point about using the Scripture. Jhn 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Jhn 5:40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. Jhn 5:41 I receive not honour from men. I debated on including the next verse: Jhn 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. We must remember why the Scriptures are here in the first place. They are here in order to teach us about God, Jesus the Christ and the Holy Spirit for all His Glory and Might. But, there is so, so much more to God. We must remember this. There is Wisdom, Proverbs 8, for instance. There is the Earth, Stars and Heaven, Genesis 1. Everything we look at, every person we talk to was created by God’s will, at God's will. We can’t forget that. We must think of God and how He affects each and every one of us every single day. Concerning faith, I think of Rev. Spurgeon’s sermon #317 ( http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/0317.htm ) and his discourse on Faith. Daniel’s faith delivered him from the mouths of the Lions (Dan 6:7-28). The centurion’s faith allowed his servant to be healed. (Mt 8:5-13) Moses’ faith allowed him to free the Hebrew people and talk to God (The entire books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy). His (Moses’) lack of faith is also what kept him out of the Promised Land. Abraham’s faith allowed him to be the father of great nations. Noah’s faith allowed him to build the ark and escape the flood. (Both in Genesis) And, my faith in Jesus, as my Saviour and Lord, is how I know I’m saved. Your friend in Christ. Russ |

3 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141770
Hello Russ, "While there is good in all of the Scriptures, there is more to Christianity than just the scriptures. We mustn’t get lost in that. ...." Here is more scripture: 2 Tim 3 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:15 (New King James Version) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. You are right, there is more to Christianity than the scriptures, but that is like saying that there is more to a house than just a foundation. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

4 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | kw5kw | 141772
Greetings Pastor Glenn Oh, I'm very aware of 2 Tim 3:16. It's one of the verses that I first point to when I'm teaching the Bible to younger people. Did you read the Rev. Spurgeon's sermon? He has a great sermon on faith, and although he has references to passages in the sermon, in the body of the sermon proper he has no actual references to specific scriptures. At the beginning of the sermon he does reference one and only one verse: John 4:48. The Rev. Spurgeon was one of the greatest preachers to ever live (IMHO), and he didn't think it was necessary to footnote every though that he spoke about. (OH, if you print that sermon, it's 25 pages long.) Dear brother Russ, Please understand why we are harping on the importance of scripture. Do you understand the danger in minimizing the importance of scripture? Do you realize how your statements are being perceived? I am sure that you have heard of the church denomination that chose a homosexual man to the office of Bishop. Well, that decision came a few years after they began to minimize the importance of the Holy Scriptures. You must understand the danger here: 2 Tim 3 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
