1 | verse explains nonChrist knowing savior | 2 Cor 5:15 | brother paul | 178278 | ||
Dear Tim, Thank you for your grace and patience with me, One of the scriptures I quoted was 2 Peter 3:9. 'That God was not willing that any should perish, but all should come to repentance.' DocTrinsograce complimented you and acclaimed you as a Grrek scholar. I would deeply appreciate your comments. When I was studying NT Greek we looked at this verse and I inadvertantly pointed out that the word 'willing' was translated from 'boulema'. The teacher (a 1:1 at Oxford) turned whit and visibly shook. I asked what was the problem, and he muttered, 'You know what a Papal Bull is, it is an edict, a law, a statement of intent.' He left the room and was not seen for some time, he never would mention it again. 'Boulema', Vines, ' a deliberate design, that which is purposed.' Thayers, 'to will deliberately, have a purpose, to be minded.' It is the 'boulema; that Jesus accomplished and the other occurences express His plan not a mere desire. Even we reduce the meaning to a wish, doesnt our Sovereign God get what He wishes? John Wesley said of this verse that God was 'not willing (Old English meaning) that any soul he hath made should perish.' Is God's will subject to Satan, will Satan have more victoies than God? There are scriptures that speak of this, this is only one, do you see there is a dilemma? Look forward to your reply, we are all seeking truth of Him, Yours in Him, Paul |

Greetings BP, The antithesis of parish, in 2 Peter 3:9, is “repentance”, designated by the superordinate contrastive conjunction (alla) in the Greek or (but) in the English. 2 Peter 3:9 (B) not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. I think it would be interesting to hear your outtake on the word, repentance, i.e. (metanoia), from an Oxford point of view, assuming that Strong’s 3340 and 3341 wouldn’t be the suggested route? Have a good day, CDBJ |

Dear CDBJ Many thanks, you encourage me to go further, Just to clear a point, it was the tutor, not me who went to Oxford. My qualifications are more modest. As you know the smaller words, the conjunctions and prepositions are almost impossible to translate with any degree of certainty. For the moment lets accept your translation, 'but'. This does not remove the imperative of the subject of the sentence, 'God is not willing that any should perish,'. This is the sworn will of God, 'that none should perish' therefore, but, neverless, not withstanding, nay moreover, all should come to repentabce.' Repentance and the acceptance of Christ are essential, that is not the debate, it is the initial statement upon which the object of the sentence is based. 'It is God's will, His promise, His edist, His law (not wish) that none should perish.' As you and I both know 'metanooia' means a change of knowledge, and that is exactly my position, we must leave tradition to be informed of the Holy Spirit. (Mark 7:14 the 2x666th verse of the new testament) Traditions kill the word of God. Your truth is my heresy and my heresy is your truth, praise God but let us still be brothers in Him because that way the truth is verified. (1 Cor 11:19) God bless you brother, you are a man of the word, I thank Him for you, Yours Paul |

Hello BP, I got a real kick out of your pretension, “As you and I both know”. You stated the following, “Repentance and the acceptance of Christ are essential”. Is it your assertion that repentance is a verb and in conjunction with the colloquialism, acceptance of Christ? 2 Tim. 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth. Have fun, CDBJ |
