Country Girl: Yes, my post is indeed made with "tongue in cheek," in jest. :-) I agree with you that "the world is a better place since most of the developed world at least have access to a copy of the Bible sometime in their lifetime in a language they can understand." Unfortunately, however, not everyone would agree that the world is a better place because of the Reformation. Some seem to think that it would be better if we all came under submission to one human authority and all believed the same thing, even if what we believed was incorrect. Some appear to believe in unity at any cost -- unity in spite of the truth. I believe in unity around (based on) the truth -- not in spite of it. I appreciate your insight. And I urge you to continue your good participation in the forum. Grace and shalom, kalos |

I too am most grateful for your posts to the Forum as you have a keen mind and are so devoted to studying God's Word and to the unity of the Lord's Body. If it's one thing I've learned about human beings, it is that we tend to be reactionary. Our basic instinct is to react to the circumstances and the actions that are placed (mostly by God) in our presence. Very, very rarely do we as humans act in a pro-active state and even rarer still do we act pro-actively in a Godly cause. So what I'm saying the Reformation AND the Restoration were both reactions from great men who saw the inadequacies of their current world and sought to improve upon them. All of us could benefit from the words of Paul by re-reading Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Thus we all must resolve to wake up every day, reforming and restoring our soul to re-commit ourselves to living that actual life of sacrifice to our Lord. It takes work, real genuine dedicated work to remember this when the world tempts us...why it even shouts at us "to leave that spiritual stuff behind, come join us and have some fun instead." I appreciate your plea for unity but alas I also know it's a difficult goal to actually reach. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
