I've been following all of the posts on this thread as the topic is very interesting but I'm hoping all of you can tackle a somewhat related subject. What do we as modern christians mean when we use the words such as spiritual gifts, speaking in tongues and all other miraculous powers? How do we determine if they're from God or not? What do we use for a standard for that evaluation in today's world? Can we be certain? I'm hoping to get responses from as many of you as possible from the Forum. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

Greetings Country Girl! By spiritual gifts, I mean.... 1) Abilities given directly by the Holy Spirit to an individual, not natural talents - 1 Cor. 12:4-11. 2) They are given for works of ministry for the common good - 1 Cor. 12:7. 3) Love should be the foundation of all the gifts - 1 Cor. 13. 4) They ought to be a normal part of our worship, done for the strengtening of the church - 1 Cor. 14:26. 5) They should be used in an orderly fashion - 1 Cor. 14:33, 40. 6) They should not be forbidden - 1 Cor. 14:39. 7) We all have different gifts - Rom. 12:6. 8) Gifts can be neglected - 1 Tim. 4:14, 2 Tim. 1:6. 9) Each of us has a responsibility to use our gifts to serve others - 1 Pet. 4:10. The only passage that seems to speak of how to judge a gift is 1 Cor. 12:3. No gift of God can deny Christ! Can we be certain? There is very little in life of which we can be certain! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
