1 | Where does it say "MUST be baptised" | John 3:5 | flinkywood | 111326
CDBJ, When I first believed, I knew little about the bible. I had no idea what sin really was or of the necessity to repent of it. I do remember feeling amazed that I had believed in the Man I'd been scorning and ridiculing my whole life. I was first baptized with the understanding that it was a declaration of dedication to God, but not something necessary for salvation. I was baptized a second time along with my wife because my first baptism had been by a preacher I came to distrust. My wife and I were eager to do this and we strove to understand baptism as best we could beforehand. It felt to us like a marriage to God. Since the beginning I've tried to understand my obligations as a Christian and to fulfill them conguent to the scriptures. I take comfort from the thief on the cross in that I can be a saved child of God even though nailed to the cross of my own ignorance. I also believe, however, that if I am free of that cross of ignorance and don't perform what I have been blessedly given the instruction and power to do, then I am condemned. If I say I believe in Christ, knowing what I ought to do yet not doing it though I'm able, then my faith is dead and I am in danger of losing the gracious gift of His salvation. Ever since I first believed I have tried to make my calling and election sure (2 Peter 1.10) and to somehow learn "the obedience of faith." (Rom 1.5; 16.26). I don't believe I could have, or would have, been truly saved had I blown off baptism. In this way I believe baptism is absolutely necessary for salvation. We don't have a lot of rituals as Christians, but this is a big one. Colin |

3 | What does Scripture mean by no works? | John 3:5 | camickro | 111425
I am not Colin but, I would like to give this a shot if I may. If you will read Eph 2, it will most likely answer your question but the short of it is: we are saved by Grace...God's gift thru Christ. None of us can "work" our way into heaven by being "good" or "generous" or "kind" for without faith in Christ our very best "works" are still sinful. It is only thru the blood of Christ that we may approach Heaven. FAITH that Christ died for you. If our enterance into heaven depended on our own works then we would be prideful, and boastful and just down right obnoxious,,,not a Godly walk. May the Spirit teach you what it will have you know. 5 | What does Scripture mean by no works? | John 3:5 | jlpangilinan | 111589
Tim, is baptism Will of the Father or not? Do you think it is only an Idea of Christ to be baptize by John as an example how important it is? Mt 7:21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Tell me that baptism is not will of the Father and I will say that it is not important. God bless, |
