1 | Do you believe once save, always saved. | Luke 23:43 | Tuggy | 95183 | ||
Let's see what the Bible says: Ezekiel 18:24 - "But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die." 2 Peter 2:20-22 - "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." Not only are we to "come" to Jesus for the free gift of salvation (Revelation 22:17); we must also "abide" in Him (John 15:4), after we have come. We must die daily (1 Corinthians 15:31), deny ourselves, take up our crosses daily, and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23). Otherwise, the Christian will soon grow cold and be overcome by sin. And "if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sin" (Hebrews 10:26). |

...Not only are we to "come" to Jesus for the free gift of salvation (Revelation 22:17); we must also "abide" in Him (John 15:4), after we have come. And "if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sin" (Hebrews 10:26). We must come to Jesus? I would have to disagree with you on this point. Its Jesus who comes to us. (Eph. 1:4) just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love (John 15:19) "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. We are saved by by grace through Faith not by works. (Eph. 2:8-9)For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. Not maybe saved, not could lose it but HAVE eternal life. God Bless you, Darcy |

Jesus seeks us, yes. However, He extends to us an invitation to come to Him. Matthew 11:28: "COME unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." John 6:37: "All that the Father giveth me shall COME to me; and him that COMETH to me I will in no wise cast out." Revelation 22:17: "And the Spirit and the bride say, COME. And let him that heareth say, COME. And let him that is athirst COME. And whosoever will, let him TAKE the water of life FREELY." Remember, Jesus doesn't use force. He invites us to COME. All who accept the invitation will COME to Him, and He has promised never to turn any one away. I agree totally that we are saved by grace alone (Ephesians 2:8,9). I also believe with all my heart that God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). I also believe that if after any had escaped the pollutions of the world, but becomes entangled in those pollutions again, and are overcome, the latter end is worse than the beginning (2 Peter 2:20). For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment... (verse 21). I also believe that "The just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him" (Hebrews 10:38). You write: 'I also believe that "The just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him" (Hebrews 10:38).' Don't stop there. Go on and read the next verse. NASB Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. Now read the two verses together. AMPLIFIED Hebrews 10:38 But the just shall live by faith [My righteous servant shall live by his conviction respecting man's relationship to God and divine things, and holy fervor born of faith and conjoined with it]; and if he draws back and shrinks in fear, My soul has no delight or pleasure in him. [Hab. 2:3, 4.] AMPLIFIED Hebrews 10:39 But our way is not that of those who draw back to eternal misery (perdition) and are utterly destroyed, but we are of those who believe [who cleave to and trust in and rely on God through Jesus Christ, the Messiah] and by faith preserve the soul. Moreover, the subject of 2 Peter chapter 2 is false prophets and false teachers -- not believers, according to 2 Peter 2:1. NASB 2 Peter 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. --Radioman2 |
