1 | Where is Luke 16:19ff called a parable? | Luke 16:23 | Morant61 | 86518
Greetings Matt! I posted a reply the other day, but for some reason, it didn't go through! :-) So, I'll try again my friend! Allow to touch upon a few of your points! 1) Degrees of punishment: Exactly where does the Bible speak of decrees of punishment in Hell. The passage you cite from Luke 12 never mentions 'hell' at all. 2) Judgement first: You wrote: "And you cant go to Abrahams Bosom,Pergatory or even Heaven without a judgment first." Where exactly does Scripture say this? 3) Consumed or Ash: Where exactly does Is. 47, Mal. 4, and Ps. 37 mention Hell? Where do these passages say that they are describing the final state of the lost? In conclusion my friend, it seems to me that you ignore the clear statements about man's final destiny apart from Christ, and base your views upon poetic descriptions of punishment that never even mention hell at all. Most of the passages you cite are not even references to death, but to the punishment that men or nations will face in this life. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | Where is Luke 16:19ff called a parable? | Luke 16:23 | Mathew | 87971
Hello Tim, Its been a while since I answered my mail. I would like to do my best to answer some of these questions you asked about what I believe though. #1.Degrees of punishment in Hell? Mat 10:15 Truly I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. You stated that Luke12:47 never mentions "hell" But I see it that the whole chapter is about what will happen to us in that day of Gods return if we are more concerned about natural clothing instead of spiritual clothing. For instance: Luk 12:4 And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. Luk 12:5 But I will warn you of whom you shall fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yea, I say to you, fear Him. And further on in Luk 12:36 And you yourselves be like men who wait for their lord, whenever he shall return from the wedding, so that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately. Luk 12:40 Therefore be ready also, for the Son of Man comes at an hour when you think not. So I dont think that its a far stretch to believe that Luke12:47 was talking about different degrees of punishment in the day of judgment. There are different rewards arent there? #2.Judgment first? Were does scripture say this?2Pe 2:9 The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment, to be punished, 2Pe 3:7 But the present heavens and the earth being kept in store by the same Word, are being kept for fire until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. If everything is reserved unto the day of judgment to be punished or destroyed, then this is why I say that not one sinner has been given a verdict of what his punishment is yet. I dont beleive that hell is burning today. Or that any person is burning today. #3Consumed or ash? Final state of the lost? You suggested that I based my views of Is. 47,Mal.4,Psalm 37 on poetic punishments that have nothing to do with hell at all, but to the punishment that men or nations will face in this life. The reason all this punishment seems to be done on earth and not in a place called "hell". Is because in my opinion "Hell-Gehanna" is this world on fire. And all punishment will be dealt with on the breadth of this earth.(2Peter 3:7-12)(Rev.20:9) The word Gehenna [the Greek contraction of Hinnom] was never used in the time of Christ in any other sense than to denote the place of future punishment." Its only used 11 times. Every other word for "hell" such as Sheol, the deep, the belly, the Pit and Hades is nothing more than the "grave". This is also why I beleive that the story of the rich man and lazerus is a parable, because it doesnt use the word Gahenna. Instead it uses the word Hades to represent the grave. And also Luke 12:16 sounds really close to Luke 16:19 in which they both start out that "there was a certain rich man." Is it just chance that Luke 12 is a parable and 16:19 is not? These are just my opinions. Your Brother in Christ also, MaTT |
