Read on to verses7,8. The question is can a person loose their salvation? The answer is yes, because you have freewill to choose. Now if a person who has tasted the heavenly gift turn from following Christ, can he repent and be saved? See Heb 10:26-29,30,38,38.Paul is speaking to Jews who are now following Christ.

candy lee, if these verses in Hebrews 6 describe people who are Christians who actually "lose" their salvation, they also teach that it is impossible to be saved a second time. Thus, if they came to Christ of their own "free will" in the first place and fall away of their own "free will," their "free will" is not sufficient to permit them to renew them to repentence (see Hebrews 6:6). If their "free will" is sufficient to bring them to salvation, and by exercising their "free will" they can "lose" it, why, do you suppose, their "free will" is not sufficient to nenew them again to repentence? Additionally, does this passage teach that a "backslider" (one who falls away) has forfeited all hope of salvation? Do you see a possible exegesis of this passage that is different from yours -- one that does not conflict with other passages of Scripture? ...... Another pair of questions for reflection. Who gives eternal life? If it is eternal, who can take it away? --Hank

Only the Holy Spirit can draw them back. You still have to make the choice to repent or not. If the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart and you are convicted of that sin and are sorry and don't want to do it again then you ask for forgivness, then for strenght to forsake that sin. WE are all sinners. The difference between the forgiven and the unforgiven is the forgiven sinner asked to be forgiven. There is an action going on here. ASKED TO BE FORGIVEN. the action asked is on the part of the sinner. Drawing by the Holy Ghost, forgivness by God. We still have to ask.Otherwise what seperates us from the wicked? They chose to Tread under foot the Son of God.They choose the god of this world/worldliness. God would have all men saved 1st Tim 2:4 WE know that all will not be saved. Because the wicked will have their part in the lake of fire that is prepared for satan and his angels. The road is narrow... Who made Adam sin? Who made Moses strike the rock when God said speak to it? I thank God Daily and ask for forgivness daily. Why? Because I am a Sinner.Praise be to God for his love towards us all,who HATES SIN but LOVES THE SINNER, even a sinner like me. God gives eternal life. Man is mortal and subject to death. Eternal like is promised only to the rightous. So those who believe that God punishes the wicked in hell forever then also believe that the wicked will have eternal life, for how can a person be tortured unless he has life? A backslider can ask for forgivness. This is what I was saying. And God is faithfull to forgive us our sins. Only when you refuse to listen to the calling of the Holy Spirit to the point that you have heardened yourself to the plee to come to Christ are you in danger.

Hi Candy Lee, You're covering a lot of ground and bringing multiple issues into play with your post. I think there's more to "The difference between the forgiven and the unforgiven is the forgiven sinner asked to be forgiven. There is an action going on here. ASKED TO BE FORGIVEN." Correct- IF we're talking about faith! (Rom. 4:3) Faith is our "requirement", Forgiveness is: in pardoning sin, God absolves the sinner from the condemnation of the law, and that on account of the work of Christ, i.e., he removes the guilt of sin, or the sinner’s actual liability to eternal wrath on account of it. Colossians 2:13 and 3:13 answer the forgiveness part as does Eph. 4:32. The believer needs 2 things: Forgiveness as well as imputed righteousness! Consider: Rom 5:1 "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Eph. 1:3-4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him..." Eph. 1:7 "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace..." 2 Cor. 5:21 "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." These are but a few of the "spiritual blessings" that we HAVE been blessed with! Our position with Christ is much more than just "asking for forgiveness". If it weren't, we'd end up on a treadmill, constantly asking God to do something His Word says He's already done! As a note, the NT does not use the term "backslider". We are implored to "walk by faith, not sight" in 2 Cor. 5:7. I would call it walking by sight. Hebrews 11 deals with this in depth! Without FAITH it is impossible to please God (11:6) I'm not sure what you mean or where you're going with, "So those who believe that God punishes the wicked in hell forever then also believe that the wicked will have eternal life, for how can a person be tortured unless he has life?" Could you elaborate? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
