1 | The Sacred Romance | Num 28:11 | VerticalRelationship | 97398
My church on Wednesday nights does not have preaching instead we group together in Bible studies. Our Ladies study group has started a study using this book "The Sacred Romance" by Brent Curtis and John Eldredge. My question is: Is it a safe study? The language used makes me uncomfortable. I keep reading about how the voice often comes in the middle of the night or the early hours of the morning. Then the language used is magic, enchantment, the lost journey of the heart, finding the romance we lost in being active in church activities and business. It talks about coming into focus with our inner life, the story of our heart, our passions and dreams, our fears and our deepest wounds. Our "shimmering self" is the mystery within us. And we need to find this place again and have a romance with God. O.K. Maybe it is the Baptist in me, but I am seriously critical of this language. But everyone else thinks it is great. What do you think? |

2 | The Sacred Romance | Num 28:11 | John Reformed | 97408
Dear VR, 1 Cor 7:3 The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband I don't blame for being concerned. It sounds like mumbo-jumbo couched in flowery language. At times like these the resposibility of being a husband can weigh heavily upon one's shoulders. I would ask for the scriptural basis for what is being taught. If I failed to be satified, I would have to express my concern to wife and ask her to find a Bible based study. Eph 5:22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Eph 5:24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. Maybe it's not merely the Baptist in you but the Holy Spirit. "...everyone else thinks it is great." That may be so, but, your wife is under your covering, not their's. 1 Pet 3:7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be May God grant you wisdom and strength, John |

Dear Searcher, I am totally ignorant of the content of this book. My post to VR was in regard to his concern about it. My purpose was to exhort him to take responsibity and to ascertain whether the book was founded on scriptural truth or not. In this day and age one cannot be too wary! I apologize if some inherent skeptisizm showed through in what I said. My remark "mumbo-jumbo" comes to mind. :-( Thanks, John |
