Bible Question:
Is it just a right of passage? Lets see what we have here. 1. Matt 3:11,Mk 1:8, Lk 3:16,Jn 1:33. All these verses speak of Johns baptism and refer to what would come on Penticost. 2. 1 Cor 1:17 This is what God has called each and everyone of us to do. Matt 28:18-20. I will agree with you on this, one must grow beyond the basics, but if one is to do so one better be solidly grounded in the basics. There is nothing infantile about baptism, Baptism is one of basic tennets of the faith. The big question I have is why when baptism is mentioned some people get the idea we are taking the focus or priority off Jesus Christ? Quite the contrary,It puts the focus right where it rightly belongs,on Jesus Christ and what he did and accomplished for us. What do we do with Mk 16:16, Acts 2:38,Romans 6:3-11 1 Pt 3:21? It all fits together. In Christ, lionheart |
Bible Answer: Greetings Lionheart, This might be a different slant on what John meant when he said, Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: It’s possible that John the Baptist didn’t have a clue about what would happen on the day of Pentecost, yet he knew that Jesus would baptize (everyone) that was standing there that day. There were many in the crowed that day that would never believe in Christ and receive the baptism of the Spirit and be sealed. Ephes. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Those that didn’t believe in Christ, that were stand before John that day, would receive a baptism of fire. Rev. 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. The baptism that John spoke of in Matt 3:11 could be the one baptism that would unify all believers thus we have, Ephes. 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, Have a great day, CDBJ |
