Bible Note: Doc I'm sorry I’m not sure what you meant with this statement or how it fits in with this discussion. "For a decade I worked side by side with AOG pastors in prison ministry. I have been very, deeply saddened when ordained men of God walked away from their faith. I do not mean any disrespect, Ed. I can well understand why this is a sensitive issue with you. In my own tradition the seed sometimes does not take deep root. Only time will tell." Don’t misunderstand my position Doc I have been merely trying to answer your questions and keep the record straight by presenting the “other side” of the issue. I have absolutely no animosity toward you or what your saying at all. I was joking when I said that about Dr. Martin whose work I also greatly respect. In the early days of Pentecostalism Dr. Martin considered Pentecostalism outside the bounds of orthodoxy and in fact labeled it abhorrent teaching. However many years relented and changed his opinion. In his book Kingdom of the Cults he made a statement to this effect. In fact he hired Hank Hanegraff a man that once served on staff for Mount Paran Church of God a very much Pentecostal church. I think Hank has since seemed to have backed away from the Pentecostal perspective but I know he still considers it a orthodox religion. I’m not sure what you mean when you say we need to discuss the meaning of orthodoxy. Orthodox – Adhering to the commonly accepted or traditional and established faith. Adhering to the Christians faith as expressed in the early Christian ecumenical creeds. New college edition American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language Houghton Mifflin Company 1980. Now if you have a different view of Orthodoxy I would love to hear it. Perhaps we should start another thread. I zero in on the statement “Adhering to the Christians faith as expressed in the early Christian ecumenical creeds.” Because to me the creeds are fundamental and express the true view of Christianity. Nothing in Pentecostalism perspective adds to or subtracts from those creeds. EdB |
