Bible Question: what did paul mean when he said he put no confidence in the flesh? in philippians 3:4-6, what did paul have going for him, according to the flesh? what was paul's example? |
Bible Answer: Greetings PJ, Everything that Paul accomplished in his past that was of a religious nature, i.e. trying to gain God’s approval by assumed good works. Paul counted it all a waste of time and effort. Ephes. 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not of works, lest anyone should boast. Paul found out that total faith in God’s Son Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross is all the means anything as far a God is concerned. 2 Cor. 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus is the end of trying to look good in God’s eyes to everyone that will “totally” trust in Him. When one puts “all their hope” for eternity in the person of Jesus Christ, God places them positionally in the person of His Son and as a result when God looks at the believer all He sees is the perfect righteousness of God which is what He demands for eternal life What a fantastic plan that the Lord provided for us; He’s done “all” the work and deserves “all” of the credit so that boasting by anyone is completely eliminated.
