Bible Question:
It is my opinion that the new testament in accurate, useful and reliable but not "the word of God". It seems that 2 timothy 3:16 is not refering to the new testament. It had not yet been compiled. It is my opinion that the word of God is Christ and the gospel as in (2 corinthians 2:17,4:2, john 1:1, 1:14) I think the belief that the bible is the word of god is a stumbling block for some people to come to Christ. Do we need to believe the bible is the word of God for salvation? Then why do we Christians seem to hold on to this belief? Why do we need to believe the bible is the word of God in order to become a member of a church? Are there any Christian groups or demominations that have my view? I would greatly appreciate your opinion on this subject. |
Bible Answer: It seems to me that you either believe that the whole bible is inspired by God or none at all. All scripture is God breathed. You can't take pieces of the word and throw out others. If you do that you are only making the word be what you think it should be or say what it should say. Who are we to say that the new testament is not the Word of God. We are told not to add anything to the bible or take away anything from the bible, for let that man be accured if he preaches another gospel. How can the bible not be the word of God which, leads us to Christ, tells us who He is, how we should live, what is the meaning to life, how great a love the father showed us through His Son, grace, mercy, peace, fellowship, prayer, repentance, faith, wisdom, understanding, and His sovereignty. We are told that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. You can't believe one and throw out the other. If we tell people that the bible is not the word of God for salvation then how will people hear and be lead to Christ. What is the point of the word and the gospel but to point others to Christ. So, why would it be a stumbling block to others when it's main purpose is to lead others to Christ. If we did not have the word of God to look at and read how would we know how Christ lived, died for our sins, rose and was victorious over death, hell, and the grave. It is our instruction manuel for living a holy life through Him. I hope this helps! |
