Bible Question: Why is the Apocrypha in some Bibles and not in others? |
Bible Answer: Mainly Catholic Bibles have the Apocrypha and others don't. But some protestant Bibles still have them in attached at the end of the Old Testament. Martin Luther believed that they were authoritive, but not as much as the other books. There are a few reasons why the Apocrypha is generally not accepted as other books: 1. They are written in Greek and the Jewish people never saw them as authoritive. 2. The were written during the Hellenistic period (Jews under the authority of Greeks) and seem to have Greek ideas in them, that weren't previously promoted by the Jews. 3. Jesus or the Apostles never quote from the Apocrapha, but do quote from almost all (it might be all, I'm not sure) of the other books in the Old Testament. I hope this helps! Ryan |
