Bible Question: What does the Bible teach about election? |
Bible Answer: Election is woven throughout the whole of scripture. God's Sovereignty demands it, but a few verses to consider are: John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love Eph 1:5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, Eph 1:6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace Romans 9:16 So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. Romans 8:28-30 Also And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Rom 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; Rom 8:30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. God's election demonstrates His goodness and wisdom. This is an amazing concept that is hard to comprehend. Truly beliving that scripture teaches that God is omnipotent, good, and merciful gives a wonderful peace. He allows to participate in His plan of salvation to taste of His goodness and yet takes full responsibility for the results. |
