Subject: Bible books deleted Jehovah is now God |
Bible Note: Janice C What Retxar has told you is correct. Here is what we know. About 200 years before the birth of Christ around 200 BC approximately 70 leading Jewish scholars of the time came to together and produced a Greek Old Testament from existing Hebrew manuscripts. This work was called the Septuagint which means 70 after the 70 scholars that helped produce it. At the time of Jesus the Septuagint had become very widely used, and it is known that Jesus actually quoted from it. We know this because when Jesus would quote Old Testament verses He quoted them using the words and sentence structure as they appear in the Septuagint. The Apocypha which consist of the following books was not included in the Septuagint 1 and 2 Esdras, Tobit, Judith, The rest of Esther, Wisdom, Eccleslasticus, Baruch with the Epistle of Jeremiah, Song of the Three Children, Story of Susanna, The Idol Bel and the Dragon, The Prayer of Manasses and 1 and 2 Maccabees. Since these books were NOT included and since we know the Jesus quoted from the Septuagint, Jesus had to be aware of the books that were not included. Therefore we have to believe if any of these books should have been considered valid scripture Jesus would have surely said something. Because the Old Testament existed in the form we have it today and the fact that Jesus used that form we can be sure the Old Testament is complete and exactly how God intended it to be. Nothing is lost and nothing needs to be added. I hope this helps EdB |
