Subject: What is the best version of the Bible? |
Bible Note: Greetings SavedandSure! I would agree: Parallel Bibles are truly an asset! I own a few parallel Bibles, one of which is "The Precise Parallel New Testament" that was edited by John R. Kohlenberger III in 1995. It contains the complete NT text (and the prefaces) to the Greek NT, the King James Version, Rheims NT, Amplified Bible, the New International Version, the New Revised Standard Version, the New American Bible, and the New American Standard Bible (1977). I purchased it in 1995 for 35 dollars, and it is still available at www.christianbook.com for 40 dollars. This parallel Bible has been an excellent help to me, and it is indispensible when comparing translations! I used it extensively in undermining the KJV Only debate in 1996, and I still continue to use and study from this invaluable resource from time to time. I believe that the Parallel Bible that you spoke of (NIV, Amplified, NASB, KJV) is the Comparative Study Bible, which is also available through www.christianbook.com for 40 dollars.. My good friend Britt Hyser owns this Bible and he uses it everyday! As for me, I am content with just reading the Ryrie Expanded Edition NASB Study Bible.. But a Parallel Bible definitely has its advantages when it comes to certain aspects of Bible study! Blessings to you, Nolan |
