AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 3:5 'He who overcomes [the world through believing that Jesus is the Son of God] will accordingly be dressed in white clothing; and I will never blot out his name from the Book of Life, and I will confess and openly acknowledge his name before My Father and before His angels [saying that he is one of Mine]. Subject: Blotted Out If We Reject Him |
Bible Note: Dear Tim, V.5 is a compound sentence containing 3 promises for those who have overcome: 1. He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments. 2.I will not erase his name from the book of life. 3. I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. My answer to your question is that the second clause is meant to bolster the assurance given in the first. A second reason may be found by asking: What does it mean to be an overcomer? 1 John 4:4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. This indicates to me that our ability to sucessully overcome, is not credited to us but to Christ who lives within the "little children. To God be the Glory, John |
