Bible Question:
Doc, Greetings my friend, Is it Adams sin or the consequences of that sin that were passed down to us? In Him, lionheart |
Bible Answer: Dear Brother Lionheart, What we inherit from Adam is a corrupt or polluted nature. The sin we commit is a consequence of that nature (see Matthew 15:19; Romans 8:7; Colossians 1:21; James 1:14). However, Scripture teaches that Adam was the "federal head" of the human race. As the old divines put it, "As Adam and Eve stood in the room and stead of all mankind, the guilt of their sin was reckoned by God's appointment to the account of all their posterity." This is called imputation. (See Job 14:4; Psalms 51:5; Romans 5:12-19; 6:20; 1 Corinthians 15:21, 22, 45, 49; Ephesians 2:3; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; Hebrews 2:14-15) In Him, Doc |
