NASB | Hebrews 6:6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 6:6 and then have fallen away--it is impossible to bring them back again to repentance, since they again nail the Son of God on the cross [for as far as they are concerned, they are treating the death of Christ as if they were not saved by it], and are holding Him up again to public disgrace. |
Subject: What translation do you prefer and why? |
Bible Note: Hi, NC... I wasn't contending for the English translator's rendering of the word kai in Hebrews 6:6. (See my questions of our esteemed Brother Tim.) The Beza Conspiracy theory was what I was poking fun at... :-) Nothing personal intended. (Although I'd be curious to know who the scholars are that have proposed this theory.) If you have a vested interest in setting aside the doctrine of the Perseverance of the Saints, you'd want to deal with the Scriptures that its proponents actual DO use. Things like the Beza Conspiracy, or even wrestling with Hebrews 6:6 as you suggest, is a practice called "burning straw dummies." Again... no offense, buddy. ;-) In Him, Doc |
