Bible Question:
Steve/Indiana: I love you. Please forgive me if I came across judgemental or prideful. My intent is not to boast, but to set the record straight. God's words have been twisted by men for long enough. What I see happening is God's grace has been twisted into a license to sin. Now, however, is the time for the church to judge itself, and you must excuse me while I let God form me into the likeness of God's Son - Jesus Christ (1 Peter 4:17 and Romans 8:29) Jesus was fully God and fully man. The way he overcame the world was through his submission to the Father's will which he knew because he had God's Spirit without limit. He was made like us in every way (Hebrews 2:16-18) so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest. He was capable of sinning, or the fact that he overcame would not be an accomplishment (John 16:33). I will never boast in myself if that is what you are trying to get me to do. I will say only this; My conscience is clear, is yours? John 3:34 - For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. 1 Peter 4:17 - For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Gal5:16; Thanks for the reply. I agree that there are people who use grace as an excuse to sin. I know very few people like that and I don't think it is typical of most Christians. I also agree that it is God's intent to mold us into his Son's likeness and that our submission is required for that to happen. I don't agree that anyone has achieved such a perfect state of submission and such a perfect knowledge of God's will that God's job is finished. Everyone who falls short of that perfection (which is everyone but Jesus) is a sinner, plain and simple. If your conscience is clear, then you mispoke yourself in your original post; you must indeed be perfect. If you aren't perfect, you're a sinner just like the rest of us. You can't have it both ways.
