Bible Question:
Thanks, Nolan, for your answer. What does this 'perfect standing before God' mean? Does it mean that I am sinless? If so, does this 'perfect standing' change the moment that I, as a believer (after salvation), sin? Or does it just mean that I am saved? Is this a one time standing that I lose when I sin or does God always see me as the righteousness of Christ? In Him, Bill Mc |
Bible Answer: You are welcome, Bill Mc! I have written: "This involves a perfect standing before God in the righteousness of Christ (see Rom. 3:22; Phil. 3:8,9)" (The MacArthur Study Bible) This "perfect standing before God in the righteousness of Christ" does not mean that you are now sinless. It means that because Christ paid in full the penalty for your sin, that your 'account' is paid in full before God, and that you are "perfect" in a sense that when God looks upon you, He sees Christ in you because of your salvation (your sin was taken care of in full at the cross). But we will be in no wise "perfect" until we step onto the threshold of heaven with our new bodies that are devoid of sin. --Nolan |
