Subject: Is the Bible itself evil? |
Bible Note: Greetings Nevermind! I am glad that you feel you can talk with me my friend. :-) Everyone of us starts life seperated from God. Each of us had to come to the place in our lives where we were able to place our faith in Him absolutely. That is what I would love to see happen to you. Thus, I would love to be able to discuss your questions and concerns with you. :-) I would still respectfully disagree though that anger is an action. While it can certainly have a visible reaction on one's body, i.e. a red face, ect.... It does not have to have such a component. Over the years, I have dealt with many people who have buried their anger and never acted upon it. In these cases, it usually turns into bitterness. But, allow me to get back to this issue from the Sermon on the Mount concerning even our thoughts being judged. It would help, I think, if we can understand the context. Jesus was speaking primarily about a group of religious leaders called Pharisees. The Pharisees basically believed that they were 'okay' with God. They didn't steal. They didn't murder. They didn't commit adultery. But, Jesus wanted to show them that everyone of us needs salvation, that none of us is 'good' enough to merit Heaven. Look for instance at Mt. 5:20, "For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven." Thus, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus confronts the Pharisees with their very best behavior, but shows them that underneath of it, their very thoughts and attitudes reveal their true nature. I believe that we would all agree that an act of murder would be worse than a feeling of anger. However, even the anger is sin. Rom. 3:23 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," This is one of the essential concepts of Scripture, a realization of where we stand spiritually. For instance, you asked about a balancing of good and evil. Scripture is quite clear that no such balance is possible. Apart from Christ, we are all sinners, and the penalty of sin is death. Rom. 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." p.s. - Body language can be very difficult to read in a written post! :-) I have longed past the point where I would feel anger or fear because someone believed differently than I do about something. ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
