Bible Question: I usually use the NIV version of the bible since it is easier to use. On some occassions I will look at the King James version to compare a passage. I have found some MAJOR word changes in some of the passages. My husband (Mormon) says that if I my church uses a particular version (mine uses the NIV) that I am to only use that version and if I disagree with it, that it proves that the Mormons are right when they say that they believe in the bible "as long as it is tranlated correctly". How can I answer him. I get tongue tied or just keep silent in order to avoid an argument. |
Bible Answer: My answer............................................... Hi Dat, I once led a discussion on this forum about how much we could trust our current translations of the Bible. If you would like to read that discussion, type the number 15780 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen. The basic idea was that we agree with Rowdy that God has protected His Word, and that all of the major translations (NIV, NAS, KJV, etc.) can be trusted. I do not believe that there are any "MAJOR" changes as you said. Perhaps you could ask specifically about some of these changes that you have found, and we could discuss why they are there. |
