Bible Question: I usually use the NIV version of the bible since it is easier to use. On some occassions I will look at the King James version to compare a passage. I have found some MAJOR word changes in some of the passages. My husband (Mormon) says that if I my church uses a particular version (mine uses the NIV) that I am to only use that version and if I disagree with it, that it proves that the Mormons are right when they say that they believe in the bible "as long as it is tranlated correctly". How can I answer him. I get tongue tied or just keep silent in order to avoid an argument. |
Bible Answer: If the Mormons supposedly believe the Bible, then why do they need the Book of Mormon which contradicts the Bible. For instance; in the Book of Mormon, in Mosiah 26 the following words are found in the heading: "Church members in sin who repent and confess to Alma and to the Lord shall be forgiven" (that is an unBiblical teaching) Also why do Mormons need to adhere to the teachings of Joseph Smith? I have no gentle way to say that the religion of Mormonism is a false religion which should be avoided. Look this following unBiblical statement up in the Book of Mormon "Thou fool that shall say; a Bible, we have got a Bible and we need no more Bible." "Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written." (2 Nephi 29:6 and 10) Compare that with what is written in the Bible; Revelation 22:18-19 (King James Bible) For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book Again the Book of Mormon contradicts what God has said in the Bible. These are just a couple of the many contradiction contained in the Book of Mormon May God steer and guide you away from false religions, and give you a loving heart towards your husband.
