Bible Note: Dear Searcher56....Would you reconsider? I agree that 1 Tim 3:1-7 applies to church leaders. 2 Tim 2:22-26, however, is a horse of a different color. These latter verses are not dealing with the church leader. They are instructing the church leader on how he should deal with others. As you say "context" is important. And translation/interpretation is crucial. I lay aside the Amplified, and the NLT, Message and some others when I am engaged in a study. I like the NASB and the NIV for their fewer mis-translations or mis-interpretations. Oh my.....if I (or we) could only read and understand the original languages :-) But even the translations I mentioned do not get the doctrine wrong and it really may not be significant except in cases when you use them as "scriptural proof" so much in demand on this Forum.
