Bible Note: Greetings Matt! You wrote concerning 1 Tim. 4:3: "The context of the chapter is whats important. In order to find out the meaning of what was being implied, not just one verse. Jesus was talking about PEOPLE and not FOOD." Yet, the word 'which' is a relative pronoun which refers to the word 'foods'. It cannot refer to people and not food. How do I know? Simple, Greek has a very precise system of identifying what the antecedent of a pronoun is. A pronoun must agree with it's antecedent in both gender and number. 'Which' is a neuter, plural pronoun. The only possible antecedent for it is the immediately preceding word, which is 'foods'. 'Foods' is also a neuter, plural noun. So, 1 Tim. 4:3 is clearly teaching several things about this food. 1) It is a demonic teaching that says that one must abstain from certain foods - vv. 1-2. 2) And, that God created these 'foods' to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth - v. 3. 3) Everything God created is good - v. 4. 4) Nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving - v. 4.
