Bible Note: Hi, Vintage... Fell swoops and all, any interpretation of Scripture outside of a grammatical, historical context is the root cause of more error than you can shake a stick at! I will not be miserly with answers, therefore: You asked, "Do you mean like this?" Yes I do. Absolutely. ("May God be true and every man a liar.") You asked, "This truly of His then, really was a truly?" (sic) I am sorry, I do not understand this question. If you are asking me, am I able to explain how it was grammatically and historically true, I would answer, yes -- but to a limited degree. I am certainly not persuaded by the dispensational, prophecy mongering that is so popular in many circles today. However, I am also not persuaded by the preterist interpretations. I had a professor once who said, "When you find yourself out in the river, where the water is getting too deep to make touching the bottom easily, come on back closer to shore." The old, historic Baptist divines said it this way, "All things in Scripture are not alike plain in themselves, nor alike clear unto all; yet those things which are necessary to be known, believed and observed for salvation, are so clearly propounded and opened in some place of Scripture or other, that not only the learned, but the unlearned, in a due use of ordinary means, may attain to a sufficient understanding of them. (2 Peter 3:16; Psalms 19:7; Psalms 119:130)" --1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith (chapter 1, paragraph 7) In Him, Doc PS You'd really enjoy that book, buddy! |
