Bible Question: What's contain in the gospel that saves us? |
Bible Answer: The gospel is summarized by Paul in 1 Cor 15:1-4: "Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures," (NIV) The gospel is the saving work of God in His Son Jesus Christ and a call to faith in Him. Rom 1:16-17 says: "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: 'The righteous will live by faith.'" (NIV) Faith is more than an intellectual agreement to a theoretical truth. Faith is trust placed in a living person, Jesus Christ, and that He died in our place to pay for all our sins Rom. 5:6-8; I Cor. 15:3). Because of what He did for us, and our subsequently accepting His work on our behalf, we are now reconciled with God and stand complete in Christ Jesus (Rom. 5:10; 2 Cor. 5:18; Col. 2:10). We are also completely justified: "Through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses." (NIV) I highly recommend you read Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. I think they will help you immensly understand what Christ Jesus did for you and who you are in Him.
