Bible Note: BradK: Many thanks for posting the quotation of the wise words of Charles Haddon Spurgeon. No wonder he was called the "Prince of Preachers." And I thought, as I re-read his words on your post, how much better this Forum would be were all users to adopt Spurgeon's words as their guideline and refer to them often, so that a measure of his wisdom might be inculcated into the thinking and into the posts of us all who use this Forum. How many times the sordid and divisive debates that remain so ugly a blot on this Forum's escutcheon could have been averted had the participants in the battle heeded these words of Spurgeon. The Lockman Foundation's decisive action to place a strict ban on debates, and to bar from further Forum posting those who do not comply, is one of the very best steps that has been taken to restore order and sanity to this Forum. .... Another positive step by Lockman is their recent decision to emphasize strongly their insistence on all users making biblically based posts and backing them by Bible references. Too much and too often have we lost sight of the fact that this is a BIBLE Study Forum and not a free soap-box for every stray cat that comes along with a personal agenda of some sort. Again, Brad, thanks for taking the time to post this wonderful quote of Spurgeon's, and let's hope we all pause and give it our rapt attention. --Hank |
