Bible Question:
I do not presently attend church. I was raised in a pastors home and went to church regularly. It has been at least 3 years since attended organized religious church. My question is can i pay my mother my tithes. Since she is on welfare and my dad left her no means of support. They spent 25 years pastoring. thanks, sonny |
Bible Answer: Greetings Sonny and welcome to the forum, The answer to your question is no. Malachi 3:10 tells us to "Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way," says the LORD of Armies. "See if I won't open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings. The storehouse refers to God's house. By not bringing your tithes to the storehouse you are being disobedient to God. We are required as Christians to take care of God's house and God's appointed pastors. This is done by tithes. When the tithes are not paid the priests / pastors are deprived and will have to give up doing God's work to find a job. The peoples religious will be hampered and some may suffer because of it. That certainly is not God's plan. In the NT there is not specific law of tithing, but this does not imply that we are to give less than was required of the Isrealites. Instead it is implied that we should give more because the grace of God to us is more fully revealed. While the tithe is not mentioned as such, proportionate giving is clearly taught in 1Cor 16:2: Every Sunday each of you should set aside some of your money and save it. Then money won't have to be collected when I come. Much is said about giving liberally and joyfully, and 2Cor 9:6-8 teaches that rewards in the day of Christ will commensurate with the degree of sacrificial giving now. YOu said that you do not presently attend church. I have no idea why but I will say that YOu need to find a church home. Jesus tells us that we need to fellowship with other believers. He also tells us that we are to keep striving for knowledge and growth. We grow by being taught which is what should happen in church. If you do not want to attend your previous church then ask God for direction to where He wants you to be. By not attending church somewhere you are robbing yourself of a multitude of blessings. Until you do find a church home I would say to ask God where to send your tithes. Is there a TV ministry that you watch regularly? prayon |
