Bible Question:
If we are confident of our faith in Jesus but are in sin(s), such as adultery, drunkeness or unforgiveness/bitterness ...but we are sorry for these sins and ask for forgiveness... we have made progress, but they still occur in spite of our efforts...Are we still saved? 1cor6:9 know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. |
Bible Answer: You ask about the position of believers in your question and the process of forgiveness. If we are confident of our faith in Jesus but are in sin(s), such as adultery, drunkenness or unforgivenness bitterness ...but we are sorry for these sins and ask for forgiveness... we have made progress, but they still occur in spite of our efforts...Are we still saved? The key for the believer for being forgiven is in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Where in this verse dose it say that we are to be sorry and that we are to ask for forgiveness? God says that He will forgive us if we confess. The word confess comes to us from the Greek word, homologeo, it means to name as in a court room case. The reason that God is faithful is because Jesus died for the sins mentioned. Faithful means He will do it every time and not because we are (sorry), God isn’t impressed with what we do for sin, such things as being sorry, He is only impressed with what His Son did for sin. We can’t do anything for sin except confess it to God and that is all. There again Jesus gets all the credit we just have to believe that God takes care of it because He said He would. Theoretically if we are using our sorrow to be forgiven according to I John 1:9 we are not forgiven. We must do what the Bible teaches not what seems right to us. In the second place since Jesus died for all our sins they will only put the believer out of fellowship they won’t condemn the believer. The only thing that can condemn a person is refusing to believe in Jesus The Son of God and the work the he did for them on the cross. |
