NASB | 1 Corinthians 5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 5:11 But actually, I have written to you not to associate with any so-called [Christian] brother if he is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an idolater [devoted to anything that takes the place of God], or is a reviler [who insults or slanders or otherwise verbally abuses others], or is a drunkard or a swindler--you must not so much as eat with such a person. [2 Thess 3:6] |
Bible Question: HELP! I am having trouble reconciling two verses. I have 2 friends who both claim to be Christians. Both say they were saved at age 12. One is a Homosexual male, the other is a married woman engaged in an adulterous affair. In 1 Corinthians 5:11, Paul says: "But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one." But in the book of James, he tells us to turn our brethren from sin, and to do so covers a multitude of sins. How can I "turn them from sin" if I am not to associate with them? |
Bible Answer: Dear Cwade, In John 6:44 the Word of God tells us that "No man can come to me (Jesus), unless the Father draw him/her: and I will raise him/her up on the last day." So, in answer to your question, if I were you I would dissasociate myself unless and until the Lord clearly direct you otherwise and meanwhile pray with all my heart that the "Father draw them." People do not get saved unless and until they feel the need for it. They need to come to a place in their life where they experience the conviction of the Holy Spirit that they are sinners and need saving. No amount of lecturing by well meaning friends or relatives will get them there. Never underestimate the power of sincere prayers. And, when we pray, we must pray according to His will. It is always in His will for a person to be saved. Do this with your whole heart and you will be amazed to see what the Lord may do. I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten |
