NASB | 1 Corinthians 5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 5:11 But actually, I have written to you not to associate with any so-called [Christian] brother if he is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an idolater [devoted to anything that takes the place of God], or is a reviler [who insults or slanders or otherwise verbally abuses others], or is a drunkard or a swindler--you must not so much as eat with such a person. [2 Thess 3:6] |
Bible Question (short): Don't associate with Christians who sin? |
Question (full): HELP! I am having trouble reconciling two verses. I have 2 friends who both claim to be Christians. Both say they were saved at age 12. One is a Homosexual male, the other is a married woman engaged in an adulterous affair. In 1 Corinthians 5:11, Paul says: "But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one." But in the book of James, he tells us to turn our brethren from sin, and to do so covers a multitude of sins. How can I "turn them from sin" if I am not to associate with them? |
