Bible Note: Greetings Goodnewsminister! I don't believe that proper love of God can be had unless one also fears Him. We are commanded numerous times in the Bible to fear God. 1) Deut. 6:13 - "Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name." 2) Deut. 6:24 - "The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today." 3) 2 Chron. 19:7 - "Now let the fear of the LORD be upon you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery." 4) Ps. 67:7 - " God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him." 5) 1 Pet. 2:17 - "Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king." And, I save the best for last: 6) Ps. 40:3 - "He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD." I don't believe that teaching the reality of hell only results in fear. But, you make it sound like fear of God is a bad thing. Why then are we commanded to do it in Scripture? Why does Ps. 40:3 tell us that fear will result in those who put their trust in God? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
