Bible Question: tortoise What does this verse have to do with we are no longer bound by the laws of the old testament? |
Bible Answer: When you say bound, what do you mean? Do you mean that we are required to keep and obey them? Then what do you mean by required? What will God do if you do not keep them? Everyone will be judged by their works, whether good or evil. But when one receives Christ as their forgiver and leader they will no longer be brought under judgment and punishment for sin. Before one accepts Christ if they break the law at all they must die. The law has lost it's deadly grip on you; it can no longer kill you, and you are free from it. So you are not bound by the law as you once were. But does the moral law still represent the righteousness of God? Yes. Should Christians still walk in righteousness? Yes. But not out of compulsion, rather out of love for what Christ as done for you. Furthermore before you accept Christ the Bible says, Romans 6, that you were slaves to sin. That is you were bound by sins grip and you could not escape, but now, praise His Holy Name, we have been loosed from sins deadly grip and are free to serve God. But we must deny ourselves and choose to serve God. Does this explain how as Christians we are free from the law, death and sin? And for the asking He will fill us with His Holy Spirit and help us live for Him. John 8:36 "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. |
