Hi, my name is Cliff Johnson. I live in Lansowne, PA and attend Church of the Saviour in Wayne, PA, a large non-denominational church brimming with the life of the Spirit. I have two beautiful daughters and one adorable grandson who is 2 years old. My testimony follows:

I had, I suppose, a rough start in life. I wasn’t popular at all; in fact socially my life was going nowhere until I got out of high school. I wasn’t satisfied inside and drank too much and did other things that weren’t good for me. In my late twenties I got interested in reading the Bible, actually to prove a friend wrong, but ended up believing it was true, i.e. “…that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures”, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. So I began attending a Bible teaching church and then invited Jesus into my life for the forgiveness of sins, as I was told you should do.

I had been very conscious of low self-esteem for a long time. When I heard that we were guilty as sinners it was the shame of low self-esteem with which I identified the guilt of sin. I really tried to keep the rules so I wouldn’t suffer from even more low self-esteem. But keeping the rules only lead to intolerable pride, and I prayed and prayed for God to take away my pride. Then, suddenly, God showed me my sin, how displeasing it was to him, and his great love for me. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life”, John 3:16.

I had been diligently seeking him for many years, but after this my life really began to change. Now God had established a relationship with me through his son Jesus Christ, and now my experience of his awesome presence is nothing like it was then. Rather than knowing about him I now knew him personally. Now he is working on the inside to change my life, that is my thoughts and attitudes. I can now identify sinful thought patterns with the help of his Holy Spirit living inside me, and by the Word of God, and he is helping me to become free of them. “But as many as received him he gave the right to become the children of God, even to those who believe in his name”, John 1:12.
