1 | Why would NIV say 500 cubits? | Ezek 42:16 | tortoise | 129372
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me personally as well as to my question. No one has ever commented on it before, I suppose not knowing what to make of it. As usual I was too short in my description. When the man with the reed is introduced in 40:5 the reed is stated to be 6 cubits long. I was awe struck with the temples immensity until others with the NIV made known what their version said. I go between the NKJV, NASB, and NIV and generally side with the majority. It seems as though the NIV is out on a limb this time. |

2 | When does wrongly divorced rule apply? | Matt 5:32 | tortoise | 129269
In Matt 5:32 whoever marries the unlawfully divorced woman (or man) commits adultery. But in 1 Cor 7:15 the unlawfully divorced may marry again. How do we decide which rule to follow when 2 believers are involved, with neither acting in a biblical fashion? for example: one may leave but the other critisized her into leaving.
3 | Is this refering to the law of love? | James 4:11 | tortoise | 129265
How could I, in judging my brother, break the law, unless it is refering to the royal law of love as in 2:8, for 1 Cor 13:5 says love does not take a wrong into account?
4 | Why would NIV say 500 cubits? | Ezek 42:16 | tortoise | 129263
Apparent discrepancy between NIV and other translation, NIV say five hundred cubits. I have a note in one NIV Bible saying something about the Septuagint. Does anyone know why the NIV would make such a divergent translation?
5 | I'm confused about salvation | Matt 19:9 | tortoise | 115312
Justme, The reason this is important to some people is because they are in the midst of this issue being involved in a separation or divorce. People can be under a burden of guilt for what has happened. If there is cleansing and forgiveness they want to find it. Maybe we can go on without spiritual reconciliation. Where there is guilt, Jesus may have the answer. On the other hand if you talk to people who are going through this and if in their situation repentance is the biblical answer they need to know that so they can find God's path for them. We are discussing these scriptures that are here for us to use, as 2 Tim 3:16 says "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." tortoise |

6 | In what way is Christ God's mystery? | Col 2:2 | tortoise | 115198
Indeed, "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts." Is 55:8-9. Yet, we trace his hand all that we see! "The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit." John 3:8, and also Ps 107, "Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, And consider the lovingkindnesses of the LORD." |

7 | In what way is Christ God's mystery? | Col 2:2 | tortoise | 114994
Hi EdB, But it says, "but has now been manifested to His saints" Col1:26. If it was a mystery and is now manifested hasn't the mystery been solved? "to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.", Col 1:27. When we reach a poor soul and save them do we do it by our own strength or is it the transforming power of Jesus Christ that changes a life? To me that is the manifestation of the power of God. tortoise |

8 | In what way is Christ God's mystery? | Col 2:2 | tortoise | 114989
Hi, Yes, indeed, God through his Holy Spirit has enabled us to know and receive the truth, as 1 Cor 2:12 says, "now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God that we might know the things which have been freely given to us by God". And the knowledge of the mystery which we the church have and share which is in Christ and Christ in us his church, has come to us through the NT Scripture, which has in large part been written by Paul, which came to him by revelation, for Gal 1:11-12 says, "For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ." God bless brother. |

9 | The MacArthur study Bible | Col 2:2 | tortoise | 114871
Hi leonore, Yes, MacArthur, who is still living, has written a study Bible. And he definitely has a certain denominationaly perspective, which is Reformed and it is all very complicated. The best thing I have found is to ask the indwelling Holy Spirit to teach you the meaning of the passage you are studying. John 16:13 says, "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come." 10 | In what way is Christ God's mystery? | Col 2:2 | tortoise | 114868
Hi EdB, Jesus certainly is the fullness of the Godhead bodily, but doesn't Col 2:2 refer to more? Because is he not only God, but also Christ the Messiah and Savior, the one to whom all authority has been given? As it says in Col 1:26 "the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints". A mystery here, seems to be something that was hidden but now has been revealed. And what is that mystery? Is it not revealed in 1:27, "which is Christ in you the hope of glory". Doesn't this favor the The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia that you quote and suggests that MacArthur actually misses the point here? tortoise |

11 | I'm confused about salvation | Matt 19:9 | tortoise | 114861
I think if a woman separates from her husband and does not have biblical grounds for divorce, but does not "remain unmarried or reconcile to her husband" but joins herself to another man that that woman may very well not be saved at all. She may have a "said faith" or a "dead faith" as talked about in James Chapter 2. I don't get upset when I see this going on because there are a lot of people in churhes that have never been born again. Like the saying goes, "just because you are in a garage it does not make you a car". I believe that someone who has the Spirit of the living God on the inside will be far removed from all that stuff going on in the world. But there are a lot of people who flatter themselves by thinking that they are Christians. Come judgement I will not be surprised to hear Jesus say, "away from me all you who work iniquity". |

12 | I'm confused about salvation | Matt 19:9 | tortoise | 114754
Hi JuanMas, I'm not sure what you mean when you say some Christians circumvent Mt 19:9. What in Mt 19:9 is being circumvented? Your refer to 1 Cor 7:10-11, I don't see too many women withdrawing from the relationship and not getting involved with someone else. The women who leave usually just go right out and sin. I haven't seen to many cases where the woman leaves and remains pure, and then the man (who was left) divorces her. If the woman was faithful to God, if see left, she would remain uninvolved with other men and would stay that way forever. But then the man doesn't want to play the separation game so he breaks the covenant by being unfaithful. He was suppose to work on himself and return. It seems like either one or the other doesn't follow the Biblical guidelines and trashes the marriage. When people stop trying things go down hill fast. tortoise |

13 | what is right and wrong in the marraige | 1 Cor 7:5 | tortoise | 114407
Hi Easter30, Rom 1 is referring to same sex relationships which are always wrong. You and your spouse are to be available for each exclusively. 1 Cor 7:5 says, "Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control." If pornography is involved that person is deriving something sexually from it that they should be getting from the marriage partner. Your mate should love you, and part of that is to respect how YOU feel. If you don't like something then they should limit themselves to something you ARE comfortable with and not force you. Rom 14:23 says, "and whatever is not from faith is sin". But I don't know of anything that is forbidden between a husband and a wife. Absolutely you have a right to feel jealous. Pornography is a real problem with some people (mostly men but sometimes women too). It can be like an adiction and be very hard to give up. If they don't or won't stop you might need to get help from a third party like a counselor or pastor. A book you can give to a guy would be "Every Man's Battle", I think it is by Henry Cloud. tortoise |

14 | Does Jesus heal or does ones faith heal? | Hab 2:4 | tortoise | 114375
dweaver, I think it is like salvation itself. Eph 2:8-9 say we are saved by grace through faith. Our faith is only a conduit through which the power of God may flow. No faith no power, great faith great power. Many places in scripture say that the "just shall live by faith". Paul had an infirmity in his flesh and God did not heal him because he said that his grace was sufficient for him, 2 Cor 12:7-10. So, we can't say with certainty that God has not healed us because of our lack of faith. When it comes to living our lives faith is hugh, but when it comes to physical healing I am not so sure. But I am sure that if the Lord does not return before hand we will all pass throught the door of death only to meet our Lord Jesus on the other side. But to give you a direct answer I think it was Jesus' power that healed them through their faith. God bless, tortoise |

15 | please explain | Rom 5:4 | tortoise | 114368
Hi leonore, Please also see rom 8:28, and James 1:2-4. When we go through trials and hang in there knowing God is in control and seeking his leading we develop inner strength based on what God can do. We learn to trust him. When we are strengthened by this method we say, wow the rest of lifes problems are small stuff for God, so our outlook on life brightens, that's hope. God bless, tortoise |

16 | Self-Esteem | 2 Cor 5:17 | tortoise | 114367
Also Gal 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." Also, 1 John 3:1, See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him." Also please see my testimony. |

17 | I'm confused about salvation | Matt 19:9 | tortoise | 114364
Hi JuanMas, Matthew 19:9 says "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." This is sometimes called the exception clause, giving a person Biblical grounds for divorce. The 1 Cor 7:10-15 passage is very good because it is addressed specifically to the church, but it doesn't contradict what Jesus said above. However if there is NO adultery and they get divorced and then get remarried they commit adultery along with whomever marries them. Divorce, however, is not the unforgivable sin. Christians sometimes sin and have to ask for forgiveness, but we generally can and do live apart from immorality, greed and a few other sins that would require sanction by the church body. And God will also chastise us for sin, Heb 12. But, the Bible also teaches that a person who does not demonstrate a walk of godliness probably has what James refers to in Chapter 2 as a "dead faith" or they claim to be a Christian but they really are not. Such a person has never really believed in Jesus Christ to the saving of their soul. As Jesus told them in John 8:44, "You are of your father the devil". I hope this answers your question. tortoise |

18 | Divorce? | Amos 1:1 | tortoise | 114332
hi roman t, Would you like a 3rd answer? While God allows divorce for marital unfaithfulness does he not also require us to forgive sins? Matt 6:14 "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matt 6:15 "But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. So the "law" permits divorce but being forgiven requires us to forgive. Therefore if the immoral person will not be reconcilled and absolutely will not return to the relationship, shall we wait forever for them? You know, I think maybe that people who tell you otherwise may all be married. tortoise |

19 | What does this verse mean? | Phil 4:7 | tortoise | 114330
Hi realmenlovejesus, Phil 4:19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. All your needs now: food, clothing, fellowship, God's love and comfort and fellowship, with persection. We will trust him for the transition. Enjoying God and his presence for all eterniy. We can't even to begin to imagine what he has planned for us. God is good and he is in control so we win. "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:55-57 tortoise |

20 | Healing | Is 53:5 | tortoise | 114329
Hi IreneB, Yes, I also think it is talking about spiritual healing. We were made in God's image, but through the fall and sin we have lost what was intended for us, that is to know God, enjoy fellowship with him, receiving love and comfort from him, but with this we also receive afflictions as he did. This hugh benefit to our soul is temporally what this healing is all about, and of course in eternity our consolation will endure forever. And to reflect his glory we must pass on what we have received to others, "Phil 2:1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, Phil 2:2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose." tortoise |
